Plymouth City Patriots will not compete in the upcoming season of Super League Basketball. The club, which has been a fixture in British basketball’s top tier since 2004, announced they will be missing from the league for the 2024-25 season.

Despite their long-standing presence, the Patriots, who finished last in the league last season, revealed they are unable to continue this year. In a statement, the club expressed their regret, saying, “It is with regret that Plymouth City Patriots will not be part of the league for the 2024-25 season.”

The club emphasized their commitment to maintaining a professional basketball team in Plymouth, which serves fans across Devon and Cornwall, and expressed sadness over their inability to participate this season.

The Patriots, who took over from the Plymouth Raiders in 2021, were preparing for their fourth season.

With the transition to Super League Basketball replacing the British Basketball League, the league will now feature only nine teams. The Patriots’ statement also included a hopeful note, wishing future success to the nine teams competing and expressing a desire for a Plymouth-based team to return to the top league in the future.
