Kylian Mbappe scored his first two La Liga goals as Real Madrid secured a victory over Real Betis.

The French forward opened the scoring by finishing off Federico Valverde’s clever backheel pass, calmly placing the ball past goalkeeper Rui Silva. Later, Mbappe doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Silva fouled Vinicius Jr. in the box, confidently sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Mbappe had been searching for a goal in La Liga after going scoreless in his first three matches, despite having found the net in his debut for Real Madrid during the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta. The 25-year-old, who joined Real Madrid this summer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he holds the record as their all-time top scorer with 256 goals, was eager to break his La Liga drought.

His first goal came after 25 shots in the league, with the penalty being his 26th attempt. This number of shots is the highest among players in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Real Betis had their opportunities to score as well, with Abde Ezzalzouli heading wide from close range and Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque forcing a save shortly after coming on as a substitute. However, Real Madrid’s defense held firm.

The reigning Spanish champions created numerous chances throughout the match. Mbappe, despite his earlier frustrations, kept pushing forward, while Eder Militao and Valverde also tested Rui Silva with powerful efforts. Vinicius Jr. came close to adding to the scoreline, hitting the post with a deflected shot.

With this victory, Real Madrid remains unbeaten after four league matches, though they trail Barcelona by four points. Real Betis, meanwhile, continue to struggle, having earned just one point from their first three games of the season.
