Lewandowski Shines as Barcelona Thrash Sevilla to Regain La Liga Lead

Robert Lewandowski continued his exceptional form by scoring twice as Barcelona cruised to a dominant 6-1 victory over Sevilla, restoring their three-point lead at the top of La Liga.

Lewandowski, now 36, has been in sensational form, netting 14 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions, including 10 in his last six outings. His brace helped Barcelona respond emphatically to Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at Celta Vigo the previous day.

Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, showcased their attacking prowess, leading 3-0 by halftime for the third consecutive match. Lewandowski opened the scoring with a 24th-minute penalty, awarded after Raphinha was fouled by Peque Fernandez. Just four minutes later, Pedri smashed in a stunning goal from the edge of the box, followed by Lewandowski adding a second, finishing off a pass from Raphinha.

Lewandowski’s brace puts him level with Jimmy Greaves as the joint-third highest scorer in Europe’s top-five leagues with 366 goals, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (495) and Lionel Messi (496).

The match also saw 21-year-old Pablo Torre score twice in the final moments, with his second coming from a direct free-kick. Sevilla’s Stanis Idumbo netted a late consolation with their only shot on target.

The home crowd at Barcelona’s temporary Olympic Stadium, due to Nou Camp renovations, celebrated not only the victory but also the return of Gavi, who was back in action 11 months after suffering an ACL injury.

Barcelona, now having won nine of their first 10 league matches, face two crucial matches next week—against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday and title rivals Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.
