Michael Frey delivered a stellar performance, scoring the decisive goal and setting up another as QPR rallied to secure a 2-1 victory over Luton Town. Frey’s brilliant volley clinched the win for the visitors, moments after his strength and vision allowed Nicolas Madsen to equalize.
Luton’s lead, secured through an own goal by Jimmy Dunne, had come against the run of play. Despite a promising start, the Hatters failed to maintain their advantage, with QPR’s resilience shining through in the closing stages.
The home side, still searching for their first win of the season, struggled to create chances after their opener. A late surge saw Carlton Morris denied by a superb save from Paul Nardi, while Joe Taylor missed a close-range header in stoppage time.
QPR, who had gone winless in their first three Championship matches, showed signs of improvement from the outset. Jack Colback, returning from suspension, orchestrated several attacking moves, linking well with Frey, Kenneth Paal, and Alfie Lloyd.
Karamoko Dembele also impressed but squandered a golden opportunity to put QPR ahead.
Luton responded after falling behind, with Elijah Adebayo and Tahith Chong causing problems for the QPR defense. However, it was Frey’s persistence that ultimately made the difference.
His assist for Madsen’s equalizer and his composed finish for the winner capped a fine individual display.
Luton manager Rob Edwards acknowledged the disappointment of another missed opportunity, while QPR boss Marti Cifuentes praised his team’s resilience and adaptability, noting the crucial role of Nardi’s key save in maintaining their momentum.
