Charlie Woods Hits Hole-in-One at PNC Championship but Falls Short in Play-Off

Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, achieved a milestone in his young career by sinking his first hole-in-one during the final round of the PNC Championship. Competing alongside his father, the teenage golfer holed out at the par-three fourth hole, propelling the father-son duo into the tournament lead.

Despite the remarkable moment, Team Woods narrowly missed out on victory. Bernhard and Jason Langer triumphed in a play-off, with Bernhard sealing their second consecutive title—and fourth overall—by making an eagle on the first extra hole in Orlando, Florida.

“It was awesome,” said Charlie of his performance. “No-one made a mistake today, so that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. On top of that, I made an ace. I don’t think I can top that.”

Tiger Woods’ Return to Competition

For Tiger Woods, the tournament marked his first competitive appearance since July’s Open Championship. Following his second back surgery in 18 months this past September, the 15-time major winner admitted he was far from being in peak form.

Despite this, Tiger cherished the chance to play alongside his son, emphasizing the value of family bonding during the event. “And that’s the whole joy of it, to be out here with family and bonding and just the enjoyment of each other’s company,” the 48-year-old said.

Another Ace on the Same Day

Remarkably, Charlie Woods wasn’t the only golfer to achieve a first career hole-in-one during the event. Paddy Harrington, the 21-year-old son of three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, also holed out on the par-three eighth hole.

Reflecting on his son’s ace, Padraig Harrington shared, “I’ve never been as excited before. I’ve never hit a shot and been that excited before.”

The Rise of Charlie Woods

Born on February 9, 2009, Charlie Woods has steadily made a name for himself in the golfing world. He first competed in the PNC Championship in 2020 at just 11 years old, finishing tied for fifth with his father. Over the years, the duo improved their standings, including runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2024.

Although Charlie has faced challenges in competitive golf, such as failing to qualify for a PGA Tour event earlier this year and missing the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, his growth and potential remain evident.

With moments like his first hole-in-one and continued experience in high-stakes tournaments, Charlie Woods is carving out his own path in golf while carrying the legacy of his famous father.
