Kevin McDonald Rejoins Exeter City on Short-Term Deal

Veteran midfielder Kevin McDonald has signed a contract with Exeter City, returning to the club 17 months after his initial departure. The 36-year-old free agent has agreed to stay with the Grecians until January, following his release from Bradford City in August.

McDonald, who has been training with Exeter in recent months, made 11 appearances for the club in early 2023, netting three goals. During his stint at Bradford, he featured in 23 matches and even served as caretaker manager after Mark Hughes’ dismissal in October 2023.

Mentorship Role and On-Field Contributions

Exeter manager Gary Caldwell expressed enthusiasm about McDonald’s return, noting the midfielder’s impact both on and off the pitch.

“Kev has shown a high level in training and has been working hard to get fit,” Caldwell said. “While this deal is short-term, his experience and leadership make him a valuable addition to our squad.”

McDonald will also take on a mentoring role, particularly with the club’s young talents like promising midfielder Jake Richards.

“I’m naturally vocal on the pitch, and I’m thrilled to help guide the younger players while continuing to contribute as a player,” McDonald said. “This is the best of both worlds for me—I can mentor and still play at a high level.”

Exeter City’s Current Standing

Exeter City currently sits 11th in the league table, aiming to climb higher with McDonald’s experience and influence bolstering the squad.
