Sri Lanka’s Praveen Jayawickrama Receives One-Year Ban for Anti-Corruption Breach
Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned from all forms of cricket for one year after breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption code. The 26-year-old was charged in August with three violations, including failing to report an approach to fix matches and obstructing an ICC investigation.
Jayawickrama admitted to the charges, leading to his suspension, which includes six months of ineligibility, with the latter half suspended.
The spinner, who made his international debut in 2021 and took 11 wickets in his first Test against Bangladesh, was approached to fix international matches and contact another player for fixing during the 2021 Lanka Premier League.
His last appearance for Sri Lanka was in June 2022, and his record includes five Test matches, five ODIs, and five T20Is.
